  • Trouble with this car - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

We have had nothing but problems with this car. 1 month out of warranty, it required a new alternator. We have had to replace a gasket for the transmission fluid. Power steering is going. The fan for heat/AC has been replaced - and currently doesnt work on the lowest two speeds. We will not be purchasing a Pontiac for a long time, if ever.

Save your money, do not bother with a Grand Am. I have had numerous problems with mine, some within the first year. Original battery cracked open and acid leaked out (within first year), blinker went out after a few minutes of driving each time (1st year), oil leak, coolant leak, replaced factory radio, etc. Need I say more? Also, beware that youll need the "ultra high performance" type of tires, so when you go to replace them it costs a fortune.

  • Something EVERYONE should read b4 buying - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

To make a salty story saltier, I bought the car on 07/02/03 it is now 09/20/03 and I have spent over $1500 in repairs. The car had one owner, so I paid cash thinking I was getting a deal. WRONG. I had to have my freon replaced, and it holds 2.5 lbs so that was the least of my worries. The blower resistor failed, coolant leaks, all kinds of noises caused by front and rear suspension, gas tank reading isnt totally correct. Ive also had to have the spark plug wires and spark plugs replaced, normal maint... yeah, BUT found out the wires were bad to begin with.

  • GM - NEVER AGAIN! - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

This vehicle is not designed for longevity. At 37,000 miles the transmission need to be replace. It consistently experienced electric problem with interior swutches and exterior lighting. The water pump failed and finally the head gasket went resulting w/ water in the oil.

Too many intermittent issues: cruise control doesnt work sometimes, chimes for no apparent reason, pillars blind spot, transmission problems after 50k (trans oil pump). Power mirror motors died, seat sagged too early (I only weigh 140 LB), suspension issues, poor design of doors - opens half-way and closes on my leg when exiting. Poor door seals, air leak, power mirrors motor does not work sometimes, gear issues. I have kept 100% of manufactoring maintenance schedule. I was hoping to drive this car like my predecessor (same type) but I have to get rid of it after 67k. I will not recommend or consider buying again. Im an engineer and work for automotive suppliers, I know what quality is.

  • Problems from day one...literally! - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

I loved the look of this car when I first bought it May 2004. Outside and inside had great looks, but found out how cheaply made it is over time. The dashboard is pealing up by the window, the bumpers are very flimsy...able to move when washing car! About a week after purchased i moved the seat higher and would not go back down. Car overheated 2 times within first 3 mths! Thank goodness for warranty! My blinker has been blinking for over 6 mths now non stop. The light isnt on, just the sound, the mileage display and clock/radio are messed up. The display shows distorted numbers. The gas mileage is horrible...about 220 miles per tank! My AC broke 3mths ago $1,000 to repair, not even worth it

I traded my amazing volkswagen that ended up needing a radiator for this pontiac or pile of junk. I have had so many problems with it sparkplugs, headlights, trunk latch, windows, and now I need a flex pipe and I cannot figure out which one it needs the car is so loud because the flex pipe fell off somehow!!!

This is a big ripoff of the public, the car for its size gets terrible gas mileage. It is ranked #10 of 10 in crash tests and retains 24% of value to rank it in worst ten cars in the USA.Overall the car is just a throwawy car.Parts are constantly breaking, door handles, mirrors dont fold back to resist breaking if you hit one .The door window motors are always breaking.

  • Dont Waste Your Money - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

This car was always at the garage. The car left my wife stranded two times due to the alternator dying and the automatic transmission needing rebuild at 45,000 miles. We also experienced the same problems as the other owners. (Warped brake rotors, Fan would not work on 1,2 or 3, Fuel injectors needed replaced after 2 years, and cracked interior molding) Better get the extended warranty, you are going to need it with this car!!!

  • This Car is Junk - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM
    By -

I bought this car and it only had 12,000 miles on it. At 19,000 miles the automatic transmission went out and had to be replaced at MY COST ($3,000)! Then the alternater was replaced (Twice), both window motors had to be replaced, two front hub assembiles, the left CV joint twice, the right CV joint once, and it eats brakes like crazy (replaced 4 times just this year). I do not drive my car hard nor do I neglect it. I loved this car at first and now it is nothing but a headache. DO NOT BUY GRAND AMs they will live you in ruins!
